What are you getting when your videographer records your wedding speeches and vows?
This is an excellent question!
We can't speak for every wedding videographer, but here at Starr Photo & Video we are dedicated to having couples have as much info about their wedding videography as possible.
Here we will dive into all the reasons why you should include audio of your speeches and vows, and how it is usually recorded so that you don't miss a beat on your wedding day.
Let's get started!
Why Captured the Audio of Your Wedding Speeches and Vows?
1. Remembering Your Promises:
Your wedding vows are the cornerstone of your marriage, the promises you make to each other in front of your loved ones. Recording these vows allows you to revisit those tender moments and relive the emotions of pledging your love and commitment.
2. Preserving Precious Memories:
The words spoken during your wedding celebration are filled with love and meaning. By capturing these speeches on audio, you can treasure the memories of your special day for years to come.
3. Add Depth to Your Wedding Video
Right now most wedding videos are what we call 'highlight style.' This means the video is slow-mo clips (60fps) of your wedding day played to your music of choice. Adding that voice over can be really special and add just a little more personality to your wedding video.
4. Ensuring Backup and Reliability:
In the world of wedding photography and videography, redundancy is key. We adhere to the philosophy that if it doesn't exist in three places, it doesn't exist at all. Recording audio just gives you that peace of mind and knowledge that your special day is being recorded in 3 different ways: photo, video, and audio.
What does it mean to record your wedding speeches and vows?
Very simply this means that the audio of your wedding vows during your wedding ceremony and the speeches most likely given during your reception dinner or cocktail hour will be recorded and put into your wedding video.
Now your wedding video will mostly likely be hightlight styled, meaning it will be of clips of your wedding day played to music. Most wedding videos are anywhere from 6-12 minutes long. They will slice the audio of your speeches and vow and put it into the video. Now obviously the audio won't take up the whole 6-12 minutes of your wedding video, so the other spots of your video will just be music.
Vows:
Your videographer will usually mic the bride, the groom, and most likely the officiant during the ceremony to capture the vow audio. Videographers have before very handy at hiding the mics so don't worry about them showing up in your photos or video. Your videographer will usually chat with you beforehand and give you a plan of where the mic's will go and when they will be put on and taken off.
*Some couples like to do their vows privately before their ceremony, so then the videographer would just record the audio of when they do it beforehand in a similar manner.
Speeches:
Different videographers have different ways of recording speech audio. If there are only 2-3 speakers then they will mic them up individually. If there are more speakers then sometimes they will tap into the microphone audio, or they will have an external device on their camera than captures the audio projected by the microphone the speakers are using.
What makes your wedding audio truly stand out?
Having GOOD quality audio.
Having low-quality audio can ruin a wedding video.
The visual footage can be gorgeous but if the audio is unclear, has static, and breaks up it is no good at all.
